Using Arrowhead and our extensive collection of art, artifacts and maps of Berkshire County, we guide the children through an exploration of early 19th century Berkshire County life. Comparing early and current maps and photos, students can see changes in their town over the years. Observing the interior and exterior of the house, they will find similarities and differences to contemporary homes. Using photos of themselves, their classroom and school, they can compare them to old photos of Berkshire County schools and students.

Let our experienced team of Museum Educators introduce your students to a world of discovery. Drawing from fine art, history and natural science collections, as well as special exhibitions, the Berkshire Museum is dedicated to creating a meaningful educational experience for its young visitors.    A full schedule of programs featuring inquiry-based discussions, objects from the collections, interactions with live animals, and cooperative group activities are designed to engage participants in hands-on, minds-on experiences that delight and educate.

These programs are available for school groups, scout troops, homeschool groups, and groups from youth organizations.    Museum Educator-led Programs are available Monday – Friday with starting times from 10 am to 3:30 pm for groups of 10-25 students. Advanced reservations required.

A one hour tour of Chesterwood — the country home, studio and gardens of America’s foremost sculptor of public monuments, Daniel Chester French (1850-1931). Situated on 122 acres in the idyllic hamlet of Glendale near Stockbridge, Massachusetts, the property and its buildings were donated to the National Trust for Historic Preservation by French’s daughter, Margaret French Cresson (1889-1973). Inspired by the natural beauty of the Berkshire Hills, French purchased the Marshall Warner farm in 1896. During the month of May, he left his permanent home and studio in New York for six months and moved with his family to Chesterwood, where he continued to work on over 200 public and private commissions. Many of French’s plaster sketches including models of his Abraham Lincoln for the Lincoln Memorial are on view today in his Studio as well as in the permanent exhibit, Daniel Chester French: Sculpting an American Vision, in the Barn Gallery.
